On September 16, 2024, X Carbon signed a strategic agreement with Global Enviro Technology (S) Pte. Ltd. to collaborate on the development of an innovative carbon credit project. This partnership marks a significant step forward in addressing the environmental challenges posed by end-of-life tires, leveraging advanced technologies to create measurable carbon reduction benefits.

Project Overview

The primary objective of this collaboration is to develop a carbon credit project that complies with the rigorous rules of VERRA or other recognized carbon credit mechanisms. The project focuses on the recovery and recycling of materials from solid wastes, specifically targeting the conversion of scrap tyres into recovered carbon black (rCB) and high-quality syngas through plasma pyrolysis technology.

Global Enviro Technology, a leader in end-of-life tyre management, employs cutting-edge plasma pyrolysis technology to mitigate the environmental hazards of tyre landfills worldwide. This process not only reduces tyre waste but also generates valuable by-products like rCB, which can replace virgin carbon black in various industries, further promoting circular economy principles.

Challenges and Opportunities

While the project demonstrates significant carbon reduction potential, it currently does not align with existing methodologies recognized by international carbon credit platforms. To overcome this, both parties have committed to revising or developing a proprietary methodology tailored to this innovative recycling activity. This effort aims to secure both regional (Singapore) and global recognition, establishing a benchmark for evaluating carbon reduction benefits in the recycling industry.

Key Goals

  1. Quantification of Emission Reductions: Develop precise metrics to calculate and validate the emission reduction benefits achieved through the plasma pyrolysis process.

  2. Methodology Development: Combine existing methodologies with industry-specific characteristics to create a robust framework for the project.

  3. Public Recognition: Secure validation from regulatory bodies and international platforms to enhance the project's credibility and impact.

Significance

This initiative aligns with global sustainability goals, offering a scalable solution to the growing issue of tyre waste. By setting new standards for carbon credit projects in the recycling sector, the partnership aims to inspire similar initiatives worldwide, contributing to the global fight against climate change.
