Afarinick Company Limited (ACL) is a subsidiary of CJ Commodities Limited and a sister company of AMP Logistics (GH) Limited, established to contribute to the agricultural sector through comprehensive supply chain management services. These services encompass farm management, produce marketing, and the supply of quality inputs and planting materials.
ACL has a deep understanding of the cocoa value chain in Ghana and is dedicated to supporting cocoa farmers in sustainable production practices. In the past year, ACL has raised 80,000 plantain suckers, 200,000 cocoa seedlings, and 50,000 desirable shade trees for the benefit of cocoa farmers within the CJ Commodities Limited supply chain as part of the CJ sustainable sourcing program, improving access to quality planting materials.
Additionally, ACL is committed to contributing to carbon reduction in line with global standards. In collaboration with AMP and like-minded cocoa processing companies, ACL has developed a Carbon Neutral Project to offset AMP’s carbon footprint resulting from its transportation services. This initiative promotes agroforestry for carbon sequestration within the CJ supply chain, aligning with ACL's objective to contribute positively to sustainable cocoa production, climate change mitigation, and the promotion of agroforestry within the cocoa value chain.
Scope of the Collaboration
The MOU highlights several key project areas:
Clean Cookstoves and Safe Drinking Water: Provision of these solutions to underserved communities to enhance health and reduce deforestation.
Sustainable Agriculture: Projects like agroforestry and biochar applications to improve soil health and carbon sequestration.
Carbon Credit Generation: Development of measurable, verifiable projects to produce carbon credits contributing to global climate goals.
Implementation and Impact
A six-step roadmap underpins this partnership:
Project Planning and Design: Identifying target regions and households, developing project blueprints, and securing initial community buy-in.
Community Engagement and Household Aggregation: Engaging and educating more than 30,000 households, obtaining community consensus, and formal registrations.
Deployment of Solutions: Procuring and distributing clean cookstoves and safe drinking water systems, training households on usage and maintenance, and implementing recommended nature climate solutions.
Monitoring and Data Collection (MRV): Establishing monitoring systems for emissions reductions and collecting data for reporting and verification.
Carbon Credit Development and Verification: Developing carbon credits based on verified emissions reductions and submitting for third-party certification.
Sales and Revenue Generation: Marketing and selling verified carbon credits to global buyers, reporting outcomes to stakeholders, and reinvesting in communities.
The initiative is expected to deliver measurable environmental and social benefits, reinforcing Ghana’s leadership in sustainable development.
The collaboration signifies a significant milestone in advancing sustainable development and climate resilience in Ghana, setting a benchmark for global carbon credit initiatives.
